PRESS STATEMENT — FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
JBI gLOCAL Solution Room Nigeria 2026
From Dialogue to Action: Advancing Evidence-Based Responses to Infectious Diseases in Nigeria
Lagos, Nigeria — 14 June 2026
On 3 June 2026, the JBI Nigerian Evidence-Based Healthcare & Genomics Center, hosted by the Floret Center for Advanced Genomics & Bioinformatics Research, convened a national multi-stakeholder dialogue under the global JBI gLOCAL Solution Room initiative, bringing together experts and participants from academia, healthcare, public health, research institutions, government, industry, and partner organisations. The central question driving the dialogue was:
“Evidence-Based Responses to Infectious Diseases: What Can Genomics and Implementation Science Really Change?”
Contributions came from distinguished leaders spanning clinical medicine, genomics, disease surveillance, public health, implementation science, regulatory science, and evidence-based healthcare. Discussions moved beyond cataloguing scientific advances to interrogate a more pressing concern:
How do we translate evidence into measurable impact for patients, communities, and health systems?
Key Themes Emerging from the Dialogue
- Strengthening Nigeria’s genomics infrastructure and policy environment
- Bridging the evidence-to-practice gap in infectious disease response
- Building sustainable implementation science capacity
- Enhancing evidence-informed decision-making across healthcare systems
- Developing stronger partnerships between research, policy, and practice
What Happens Next?
The conversation does not end with the event. The Centre is currently synthesising the outcomes of the dialogue into a series of follow-on activities, including:
- Stakeholder engagement outputs
- Policy and implementation recommendations
- Research collaborations
- Capacity strengthening initiatives
- A proposed scholarly publication examining barriers, opportunities, and priorities for implementing genomics-informed infectious disease responses in Nigeria
We are grateful to our speakers, panelists, moderators, participants, collaborators, and the global JBI community for contributing to a rich and forward-looking discussion.
The dialogue has ended. The work begins.
